GETTING MARRIED

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR ENGAGEMENT!
CAN I GET MARRIED AT THIS CHURCH?

We're thrilled you're considering coming to us for your big day.

Marrying in church is personal, meaningful and spiritual. Churches are special places to get married. The prayers, promises and the whole service of celebration becomes part not only of your wedding, but  your entire marriage.

You can marry in a Church of England church if you can show, one of you:

  • has at any time lived in the parish* for a period of at least 6 months, or

  • was baptised (christened) in the parish or

  • is confirmed and your confirmation was entered in the register of  a church or chapel in the parish (usually so if you were prepared for confirmation in the parish), or

  • has at any time regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months, or

  • has a parent who, at any time after your birth, has

  • lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months, or

  • regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months

( * By Parish we are referring to any church in the Harwich Team; (St. Michael's/ All Saints'/ St. Nicholas' )

If you're not sure,  let us know, we'd be happy to talk it through with you.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

From Summer 2023, the approximate cost of a wedding in our churches is £650 but please do contact us for exact details. This includes the use of the church building, the minister, banns fees, marriage certificate and verger, with additional fees added for an organist, bells (if at St Nicholas') and an order of service.

St Michael's

“We got married here...

The lady reverend is first class,

down to earth & fun.”
